Dmitry Smirnov debuted as soloist in Niccolò Paganini’s Violin Concerto No. 1, joined by the orchestra under the direction of Giovanni Antonini.
The programme opened with a suite from Don Juan by Christoph Willibald Gluck. After the interval, Mozart’s final symphony, Symphony No. 41, completed the evening’s programme.
At the centre of the concert stood Paganini’s First Violin Concerto, whose virtuosic writing and expressive range shaped the evening. Already after the first movement, the performance was met with spontaneous applause and standing ovation.
