Flutist

Zofia Neugebauer

Polish flautist Zofia Neugebauer brings fresh perspectives to well-known repertoire and sets it beside music of her own, in which electronics and her voice extend the sound of the flute. Alongside her solo career, she is a chamber musician and principal flute of the Verbier Festival Chamber Orchestra. With the Utopia Orchestra, she appears as guest principal flute. In the words of The Flute View, every phrase she plays breathes ‘as if spun effortlessly from the air itself’. Her debut album, Il Vento non Scritto, with Mozart’s flute concertos and two compositions of her own, appeared on Berlin Classics in April 2026.

Zofia has made solo appearances at the Musikverein Wien, the Palau de la Música Catalana and the Philharmonie Berlin, and with orchestras including Camerata Zürich and the Deutsches Kammerorchester Berlin. At the Verbier Festival, she has played chamber music with Martin Fröst, Lahav Shani and Anastasia Kobekina. An alumna of the Karajan Academy of the Berliner Philharmoniker, she now lives in Paris.

Dmitry Smirnov

The ARD Prize winner has recorded Lalo on gut strings and reconstructed the Violin Concerto by Gavriil Popov, long thought lost. Playing and research go hand in hand.

As a soloist, he has performed with orchestras including the Deutsches Symphonie-Orchester Berlin, Il Giardino Armonico, the Kammerorchester Basel, the Oslo Philharmonic Orchestra and the Stuttgart Philharmonic. He works with Giovanni Antonini as concertmaster and soloist (including the ‘Haydn Project 2032’) and, as a chamber musician, with Sol Gabetta (Cappella Gabetta, Solsberg Festival), Ilya Gringolts, Aylen Pritchin and Sergei Redkin.

His discography includes an album of solo works by Bach and Bartók alongside a sonata by Hansheinz Schneeberger discovered among his personal papers (First Hand Records), Lalo’s violin concertos with Heinz Holliger (Prospero Classical), Haydn’s Violin Concerto for the Haydn2032 series (Alpha Classics) and ‘Stranger Sainton’ (Fuga Libera, September 2026).

In November, he makes his debut with the Mozarteum Orchestra Salzburg under Giovanni Antonini.

Conductor

Joseph Sieber

The Swiss pianist and conductor Joseph Sieber is Assistant Conductor of the Basel Sinfonietta and Artistic Director of the outreach initiative Simple Symphony.

Educated in Switzerland, England and the United States and now based in Paris, he received the highest distinction for his diploma concert with the BBC Philharmonic and was a Conducting Fellow of both the Lucerne Festival Academy and the Cabrillo Festival in California. In 2026 he was a mentee of Sascha Goetzel at the Orchestre National des Pays de la Loire in Nantes. Described as a “bridge-builder to a new audience for classical music” (Luzerner Zeitung), he developed the Central Switzerland Youth Symphony Orchestra (ZJSO), which he founded, into one of the most versatile and widely recognised youth ensembles in Switzerland during the seven years of his leadership. As a pioneer in the field of young talent development and innovative orchestral productions, he has received numerous awards, including the European Music Mediation Prize.

Music mediation

Simple Symphony

Music mediation in the third millennium. Our world has changed far more in recent decades than the ways in which we experience classical music. Simple Symphony is the response: an alliance of award-winning young music educators, cultural managers and musicians, led by conductor Joseph Sieber.

Based in Lucerne, the initiative has been developing and producing new presentation and participation formats for symphonic music since 2024 – for orchestras, festivals and presenters. Partners include Lucerne Festival and KunstKreisLuzern. The name pays tribute to Benjamin Britten and his work as a music educator.

Three formats, one aim: to bring classical music to where people are today.
