The young Swiss pianist and conductor Joseph Sieber will take on the position of Assistant Conductor at the Basel Sinfonietta in the 2025/26 season.

As the founder and artistic director of the Central Switzerland Youth Symphony Orchestra (ZJSO) and the extraordinary music theater project Verona 3000, Joseph 'JoSi' Sieber has brought together hundreds of artists and cultural workers from across Switzerland at a young age, performing annually for thousands of audiences both at home and abroad. His work as a composer, pianist, conductor, and music mediator has received numerous awards and international recognition.

Joseph Sieber studied piano with Konstantin Lifschitz and composition with Dieter Ammann in Lucerne (CH). He continued his conducting studies at the renowned Royal Northern College of Music in Manchester (UK) and at Arizona State University (USA). For his final recital with the BBC Philharmonic, he was awarded the highest distinction. In 2023, he became the first Swiss Conducting Fellow at the Lucerne Festival and held the same position at the Cabrillo Festival in California.

He has worked with renowned orchestras, conducting concerts with the BBC Philharmonic (UK), the Lucerne Festival Contemporary Orchestra (CH), the Südwestdeutsche Philharmonie Konstanz (DE), the Denver Philharmonic Orchestra (USA), the Plovdiv State Opera Orchestra (BG), the New Sinfonia (WL), and the Argovia Philharmonic (CH). Additionally, he has served as assistant conductor with orchestras such as the Orchestre National de France (FR) and the Philharmonia Orchestra (UK), collaborating with conductors like Susanna Mälkki, Marin Alsop, Cristian Măcelaru, and Domingo Hindoyan.

Joseph Sieber is the Artistic Director of the mediation project Simple Symphony, which is dedicated to innovative music education and the creation of new concert formats. A charismatic speaker, he regularly hosts readings, seminars, and moderated concerts. In 2024, he delivered his first TEDx Talk titled Dare to Be an Artist, offering philosophical insights into the journey of an artist and the value of art in our lives.
