Verbier (Switzerland), 29 July 2025: The alpine town of Verbier is no stranger to music-power and this summer, much of the spotlight fell on Zofia Neugebauer, the Polish flutist fast earning a reputation as one of classical music’s most compelling young voices.
Appearing in the festival’s celebrated Rencontres Inédites chamber series, Neugebauer joined an elite lineup that included clarinet legend Martin Fröst, cellist Anastasia Kobekina, violinists Boris Brovtsyn and Marc Bouchkov, violist Timothy Ridout, and pianist-conductor Lahav Shani.
Her Verbier performance brought those qualities into sharp focus. Nuanced phrasing, silken legato, and an instinct for chamber interplay that belies her years. As the music of Brahms, Prokofiev, and Poulenc unfolded, her flute voice wove seamlessly into the fabric of the ensemble, yet retained a distinctive glow.
With each appearance, Neugebauer confirms what critics and audiences have begun to suspect: she is not simply “one to watch” but already one of today’s rising stars, poised for a major international career.
